Liga MX Preview: Monterrey looking to build momentum

Mexican defender Severo Meza insists Monterrey are capable of playing better, despite a run of back-to-back wins in Liga MX.

After their disappointing loss at Veracruz on matchday four, Monterrey have returned to form with successive wins against Cruz Azul (3-1) and Puebla (1-0).

Colombian striker Dorlan Pabon Apertura s leading scorer with seven has played a leading role, netting all four of Monterrey s goals in consecutive weeks.

Monterrey s (+5) winning streak has the club up to second in the standings, level on points with Atlas (+4) but ahead on goal difference.

Carlos Barra s men are just three points behind unbeaten league leaders America heading into Friday s trip to fifth-placed Queretaro, who are winless in two matches.

And Meza a 16-tim…

Murphy set for Cardiff City switch

Premier League newcomers Cardiff City are close to securing a deal for Norwich City midfielder Josh Murphy, according to Sky Sports.

Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion have also been monitoring, but it is the Welsh outfit who have won the race to secure his services, in a deal worth around £10m.

The twenty-three-year-old broke into the Canaries first team during the 2013/14 campaign, making nine appearances in the Premier League though he was unable to help them avoid relegation.

Having had loan spells with Wigan Athletic and MK Dons, he returned to Carrow Road and established himself in the first team, making forty-seven appearances in all competitions last season, scoring eleven goals.

Internationally, he has represented England at every level f…

Crystal Palace v Chelsea: Warnock looking for ´superhuman´ effort

Neil Warnock is aware Crystal Palace will have to produce an outstanding performance if they are to topple Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The two sides meet at Selhurst Park on Saturday, with Palace hoping for a repeat of last season s corresponding fixture, which the hosts won 1-0 in March thanks to a John Terry own goal.

That victory signalled the start of a five-match winning sequence that saw Palace pull clear of the relegation zone under Tony Pulis.

A four-match unbeaten league streak boosted Palace after back-to-back losses at the start of this campaign, although Warnock s men did taste defeat in their last game before the international break a 2-0 reverse at Hull City.

With Saturday s opponents making a flying start to 2014-15 with 19 points from …

Toure wants to join me at Inter, says Mancini

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has claimed that midfielder Yaya Toure wants to join him at Serie A side Inter.

Toure was signed by Mancini during the Italian s stint at the Etihad Stadium from 2009 to 2013.

The Ivory Coast international is under contract until 2017, but there has been speculation over a potential move to pastures new, with Inter and Paris Saint-Germain mooted as possible destinations.

Yaya s played in all the top leagues apart from Germany and Italy and if he, as it seems, would like to come to Italy, then there is this possibility, Mancini told GazzettaTV.

Juventus 3 Fiorentina 1: Juve leave it late

Resurgent Juventus climbed into Serie A s top four as Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala both struck late to secure a 3-1 win over second-placed Fiorentina.

The visitors were searching for their first league win in Turin since 2008 and made the ideal start when Josip Ilicic put them in front from the penalty spot after only three minutes.

Juventus restored parity almost immediately, however, as Juan Cuadrado came back to haunt his former side with a fine headed finish.

And, having created the better chances over the course of the 90 minutes, Massimiliano Allegri s men duly secured a deserved sixth successive league victory when Mandzukic rifled home from close range on 80 minutes and Dybala added a third in stoppage time.

Victory for Fiorentina would have s…

Napoli want Cavani back

Napoli are preparing an offer to re-sign Paris Saint-Germain s Edinson Cavani, according to Rai Sport.

The 31-year-old striker s future has been a subject of much media speculation for several years. Recently, reports by various outlets emerged that the striker was unhappy about Neymar and Kylian Mbappe getting far more attention in Paris and that he was looking for a way out of the club. Some even linked PSG with Sevilla s Wissam Ben Yedder as a potential replacement.

Having spent three seasons in Naples, Cavani swapped the San Paolo stadium for Parc des Princes in 2013, and at the beginning of October this year he had accumulated 252 appearances for the French champions and found the opposition net 176 times. He helped PSG to four Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France …

Aubameyang wanted to join Milan – Mirabelli

AC Milan director Massimiliano Mirabelli revealed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wanted to join the big-spending Serie A club but Borussia Dortmund refused to sell.

Gabon international Aubameyang was linked with a return to Milan, the club he left for Saint-Etienne in 2011, but a transfer never materialised.

Instead, Milan signed Nikola Kalinic on loan from Fiorentina following the arrival of Portuguese forward Andre Silva.

Aubameyang is a great player. He wanted to come to Milan, but some marriages just don t happen, for one reason or another, said Mirabelli via a livestreamed interview.

Borussia Dortmund wouldn t sell and that s the way it went, but he remains a great striker.

It was a busy transfer window for Milan, who overhauled their squad wit…

Lambert at the double on West Brom bow

Rickie Lambert celebrated joining West Brom by netting a brace in a 4-0 friendly win over his former club Bristol Rovers.

The 33-year-old England striker completed his switch from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee earlier on Friday and was soon among the goals at the Recreation Ground, where he was a crowd favourite thanks to 55 goals in 143 appearances for Rovers between 2006 and 2009.

Back at his old stomping ground, Lambert opened the scoring in fortuitous fashion after 23 minutes as his speculative long-range strike deflected off Tom Parkes to leave Rovers goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall with no chance.

Craig Gardner latched onto Chris Brunt s throughball to double West Brom s advantage in the 34th minute and Lambert was on hand to convert James McClean s cross …
